Mission

We are an experimental, federated, amateur radio packet network, focused on creating a safe, inclusive, and diverse learning environment for anyone interested in participating in or driving the open development of amateur packet radio technologies.

What do we mean by federated?

This is an adhoc network of nodes. We'd love for the network to grow to be as interconnected and decentralized as possible but it's up to users how they want to participate within the framework of technologies and core services. This is very much a choose your own adventure, hacker collective, type of network. Want to try something weird? Let us know! That is absolutely what we are here for.

What do we mean by safe?

Disparaging comments towards fellow radio amateurs will absolutely not be tolerated. This is not a “free speech,” as in free to be dehumanizing or discriminatory, space. If a remark could get you written up at work or school, it will certainly get you swiftly ejected from the network. Please, just be nice; you know what that feels like.

What do we mean by inclusive?

If you are a human person with an amateur radio license, that means you! We will try our best to meet any and all accessibility requests so long as it doesn't reduce the safety or security of the network or community resources. If something is not working for you, it's not working for us!

What do we mean by diverse?

We welcome, celebrate, and raise up LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC people here. We wish to drive the inclusion of traditionally marginalized groups in amateur radio. We got our start at Pride Radio Group and that will always be our spiritual home. We will absolutely go out of our way to ensure everyone has a seat at the table.

What do we mean by open development?

Our long term project goals are to develop and implement free and open source software tools, standards, and protocols related to packet radio. Our software, standards, and protocols will be licensed such that any downstream implementation must remain free and open.
